Digital Media

The Digital Media Production team produce the media content for the University of St Andrews online postgraduate programmes, online short courses and the University’s digital portfolio. We work with staff to produce high-quality video and audio content. Our goal is to help you translate your academic material into engaging media that enhances learning and teaching across the University.

We are a small, dedicated team here to support you through the entire production journey. Whether you are comfortable in front of a camera or it is your first time in a studio, we handle the technical side so you can focus on your teaching.

Our facilities

We operate two dedicated filming studios at Walter Bower House in Guardbridge.

Our studios are equipped to cater for most production requirements such as pieces to camera, panel discussions, virtual guests and include professional green screen facilities and a large Lightboard (transparent whiteboard).

Our services

We provide support throughout the entire production process. We can advise on the best media format for your material (such as video, podcasting or screen recording) and assist with scripting, storyboarding and copyright guidance.

We offer full recording services ranging from voiceovers to on-location filming. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.

  • Clothing:

    • No green clothes at all
    • Avoid white or black tops
    • Avoid large logos or writing on clothes
    • Avoid high patterned items, for example, checked shirts
    • Light pastel colours are good – feel free to bring multiple options

    Your content:

If using slides, please use a plain white template with no logos. Make sure the slides are formatted as 16:9 widescreen and not 4:3.

We have an autocue in each studio and encourage you to write a script to use for your recordings. This helps to keep things on track and will avoid forgetting to cover certain things. A word count for a script for a 10 minute video would be around 1200-1400 words.

Know your content. You can use Panopto to practise beforehand, but knowing your script will make your recording session go more smoothly.
